Plumbed in Water Coolers are not only convenient, but environmentally friendly (no plastic bottles to dispose of), and labour-saving as members of staff don’t need to replace heavy bottles regularly. Worldwide, respect for water and the environment are marked in March by World Water Day.

Indeed, there is an organisation in Vermont, USA called Water Music. Through the creative arts and sciences, the project is helping to create an inspirational awareness of water. The project features live concerts, educational events, lectures, art shows and other activities. In 2009, in honour of World Water Day, students from six leading Vermont schools created a dance performance, original music, a variety of science projects, creative writing and art, and many other school-led projects – all inspired by water.

The United Nations General Assembly declared 22 March as World Water Day in 1993. This year (2012) the theme was “Water and Food Security: The World is Hungry Because We are Thirsty.” One of the major points made was that, in spite of a great deal of progress in provision of water, and the fact that most of us take clean drinking water for granted, 783 million people around the world still don’t have access to it.

Next time you use our Plumbed in Water Coolers it might be worth thinking about the significance of water, and perhaps you may want to contribute to the debate, take part in events, or get involved in some way to help make the world better for all.

Office water coolers may well have another use besides just providing great drinking water. In offices and homes the art of creating a balanced and harmonious environment (known as Feng Shui) involves the use of colour, texture and placing items in “auspicious” locations. Water, earth, air, fire and metal are the five elements used to create this balance.

You could actually use the cooler as your water feature, an important aspect of Feng Shui. But there are some important factors to consider. The front door is and whatever energy comes through affects the rest of the house, the people in it, and your fortune. To protect the front door from being hurt by bad external energy, you could have the water feature positioned nearby. Placed on the left near to your front door the water feature can bring good luck. But never have it facing out of your home or office or on both sides of the main door. There are three directions which benefit from water: east, southeast and north. To promote good luck position your water feature (or cooler) in the southeast area of your home or office.

With a little planning and forethought an appropriate placement of water will bring good luck, health and prosperity to the people and areas nearby. Water features – and why shouldn’t office water coolers be one of those? – can be very powerful cures when used appropriately in your home or business.

If you’re having some social time around our Water Coolers for Offices, you could make yourself the office egghead (or bore, depending on your point of view!) with some fascinating facts about water.

Three-quarters of the earth is covered with water, 97% of it is salty, 2% is ice, and the rest, fresh water. About 95% of all fresh water is below the ground, 2% is moisture, and the rest available in the form of lakes, rivers and streams. There are 12 big river systems in the Indian subcontinent. The Ganga-Brahmaputra and the Indus network provide the most water. Women in Africa and Asia have to walk an average of 6 kilometres to find fresh water. They often have to carry a container of water weighing 20 kilograms that distance.

Water contains chemicals, minerals and nutrients, and dissolves more substances than any other liquid. A person can live without food for about a month, but only about a week without water. Roughly 70% of an adult’s body is made up of water. Animals like the koala bear and the desert rat do not drink water at all. The daily water requirement for every human being, for sanitation, bathing, cooking and drinking is around 50 litres. Except that more than a billion people have access to less than 6 litres a day. A typical family in the USA, for example, consumes eight times more water than an average family in India that has access to sanitation and bathing facilities.

Never let it be said that around Water Coolers for Offices is just the place for gossip – it can be a great area to expand your knowledge, too.

Office Water Coolers are, admittedly, really great. But when you’ve made the switch from buying bottled water, what on earth do you do with all those empty bottles? Besides throwing them away, that is. Well, here are some handy handicraft tips so you can put those empty containers to some creative uses, especially for the kids.

1. Sand Art. Buy coloured sand, or, if you can’t get that, rub white sand with coloured chalk. The salt will hold the colour. Fill up the empty bottles with several layers of alternating colours. Once you have enough layers, poke a skewer through the sand to make the colours blend a bit. This will create layered effect. To seal the bottle, you could simply put the top back on, or cap it with melted candle wax.

2. Bottle People. Fill bottles with sand or pebbles. With fabric scraps, make mini outfits. Draw faces at the top of the bottles with coloured permanent markers and glue on hair and hats to the lids. Great toys.

3. Felt Bottles. Cover a water bottle with green felt. Create several felt cut-outs in the shape of leaves, or fish, or other distinct shapes, to make a natural history montage.

4. Dramatic Bottles. Children can use water bottles for dramatic play. Ask them to create water bottles to use as puppets in their story. The can decorate them with paint, paper cut-outs and stickers. While someone tells the story, the children can use their bottle characters to act out the different scenes.

We’re not entirely sure what creative uses adults can put their old water cooler bottles to, but a discussion around the Office Water Coolers might produce some interesting ideas!

A Plumbed in Water Cooler is the latest, greatest, manifestation of the very long history of water filtration. If you want to know where such devices came from originally you need to travel back in time a very long way.

Ancient Sanskrit and Egyptian writings clearly explain how water was kept pure and germ free. The “Sushruta Samhita” is a Sanskrit text from the 3rd or 4th century which deals with all of the major concepts of ayurvedic medicine. The text’s water treatment methods include boiling, heating in the sun, and dipping heated iron into the water. It also sets out a way that water can be purified by filtering it through sand and coarse gravel and then allowed to cool. The Egyptians, perhaps best known for their knowledge of dehydration for preserving their royal families with mummification, were experts in hydration as well. One tomb painting clearly depicts the picture of a water treatment device.

Centuries later, Hippocrates, the famed father of medicine began his own experiments in water purification. He created the theory of the “four humors,” or essential fluids, of the body relating to the temperatures of the seasons. According to him the humors needed to be kept in balance to ensure good health. But he also recognized the healing power of water. For feverish patients, he often recommended a cool bath in cool water. The doctor designed his own crude water filter to “purify” the water he used for his patients, which was simply a cloth bag through which water could be poured after being boiled.

When you think about this, imagine what luxury and convenience today with a Plumbed in Water Cooler.

Office Water Coolers have provided a perfect plot device for many romantic stories – the place where would be lovers meet for the first time, or romance gradually blossoms. They also tend to be where workers can discuss their ongoing relationships or speculate on the love lives of their colleagues. And this being Valentine’s Day, we were prompted to say a little more on the subject.

When it comes to finding love these days, forget bars and clubs. With office workers being busier than ever, the office environment is proving to be a place where not just friendships, but love, can begin and bloom. Of course, most people are aware of the inherent dangers of office romances, too. Your employer might have a policy against fraternisation, or the nature of the beast might pave the way for only short-lived passion or a fling. The Urban Dictionary defines “water cooler romance” as “a secret love for one who doesn’t know you well, or at all,” but adds the caution: “You don’t even know her bro. This is just a water cooler romance.” But, if you truly believe in love, why shouldn’t it emerge as a result of flirtation, date making and intimate conversation around the cooler?

Surveys around the world indicate that a surprising number of people actually had long lasting relationships which began as “water cooler” moments. And we bet you can think of any number of film scenes where romance begins to grow in the same location.

Naturally we strongly advise against going the whole way in front of Office Water Coolers – no matter how passionate you feel.

The Plumbed in Water Cooler has a huge number of advantages over the more conventional coolers with the five gallon bottles than need to be changed regularly, often by a staff member.

Our coolers represent cost savings, and convenience. Bottled water delivery has many indirect costs, such as time replacing empty bottles with full ones. It’s worth considering the environmental costs, such as the oil and energy required to manufacture the bottles. Then there is the cost of maintaining the bottling plants to bottle the water, costs for shipping to distribution centres, not to mention fuel and labour for the delivery.

For many institutions, security is a paramount concern. By eliminating the need for unscheduled deliveries, bottleless water coolers reduce, or even eliminate, security concerns. Bottled water takes up space that could be used more productively. The large 5- containers take up a lot of space. Imagine the other ways these storage closets, hallways, and kitchenettes could be used. Remember, too, that lifting a 5-gallon bottle is strenuous, and the majority of workers who replace them have no training in lifting and handling, and are in jeopardy of workplace accidents. Many bottled water providers still use jugs that contain BPA (bisphenol A), a chemical compound that can leach out of plastic into the water supply, putting people at risk. Bottleless water coolers eliminate this concern.

Bottom line? A business that switches from the bottled variety to the Plumbed in Water Cooler can experience up to 50 per cent in direct cost savings.

A recent media story revealed a dramatic use for the bottles from conventional Water Coolers for Offices. BBC North Wales reported in November 2011 that a Cardiff firm had developed a bizarre weapon – a cannon that uses water bottles for ammunition. The firm’s idea is that the humble bottle used in standard coolers would be deployed in the latest military hardware to deal with hostage situations and terrorist threats. The cannon, called the Wall Breaker, fires the bottles into buildings at high speed. It is already being exported to military and security forces. The pneumatic device fires water cooler bottles at 300m (984ft) a second to break into buildings.

The developers claim their cannon has advantages over traditional methods of gaining entry to buildings and structures. Security teams and counter-terrorism officers might normally use explosives, which are extremely dangerous when trying to rescue hostages, especially as the explosion and debris cause so much damage. The cannon uses compressed air to fire the big plastic bottles filled with water, each weighing about 22kg. The impact can smash through a double layer breezeblock wall. The great advantage of this method is that the casing shatters and the water just sprays out.

Of course our Water Coolers for Offices are bottleless, but we applaud the Welsh firm ingenuity in aiding our troops in crisis situations.

Its official, the locations of office Plumbed in Water Coolers are among the most likely places to meet a new partner, or for brief romances to be sparked off. The coolers are where everyone goes at least a couple of times a day and make small talk, so it’s bound to be an ideal location to get to know what a person is like pretty quickly.

According to an Australian study, more than a third of workers have confessed that they’ve had a relationship with a colleague at some point. And a piece of research conducted recently in British Columbia, showed that almost 40 per cent of workers favoured a little office flirtation. One in five British Columbians have been in a relationship with a colleague, although 52 per cent tried to keep that office extra-curricular activity secret! In today’s culture of longer working hours and commutes that can be equally long, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that love can bloom as a result of social interactions in the workplace. But, remember, some employers may frown upon – or even have active policies against – romantic liaisons between colleagues. But in a more relaxed environment, if you work closely together and you share common non-work interests, Cupid just may strike at your place of work.

Office Plumbed in Water Coolers have even provided key romantic episodes in countless romantic movies from Hollywood.

Office Water Coolers can be beneficial to office workers’ health, as well as the environment. By choosing free filtered water, they could be they are less likely to spend money on coffee, soft drinks and other beverages from vending machines or outside of the workplace. Drinking more water and less sugar-filled soft drinks is better for everyone’s health.

From the employer’s point of view, a water cooler can save valuable working time, as workers do not have to leave the office to buy drinks. Visitors to your workplace, including clients, always appreciate the convenience of a water cooler.

Water coolers are also good for the environment because they reduce the amount of plastic bottles bought every day. Which is a big plus, since one of the main environmental problem we face today is the abundance of plastic. Over use of cups creates a lot of rubbish, but staff can always be encouraged to reuse their cups several times, or to refill their own bottles from the water cooler.

In many large cities there has been criticism about the quality of tap water. Installing Office Water Coolers is an assurance of water quality as well as being a gesture that shows the employer cares about their staff’s health and wellbeing.
