Oftentimes we find ourselves at one of the office water coolers chatting it up with a co-worker and realize that you are no longer talking about the weather. Though staying hydrated is necessary, gossip isn’t. If you are planning on moving up professionally rather than socially in your office, then avoid the gossip. This of course doesn’t mean that you should cease talking altogether, simply keep conversations away from gossiping about how late a co-worker arrived that morning or a blooming romance within the office.
There are plenty of ways of avoiding this kind of conversation. If a co-worker begins discussing that new assistant that just started the other day, how they are dressed or how they are incompetent at doing their job, find a way out of the conversation. There are two main ways of doing this, one, look at the clock and say that you just remembered that you had to call a customer back, or simply reply that you were quite impressed with the way she handled a call and ask about how their weekend was. Don’t directly cut them off, simply steer them away from the conversation by getting them to talk about themselves. Usually gossipers like the sound of their own voice and will be more than happy to tell you about their weekend in detail.
Chatting around the office water coolers is healthy, it helps you clear your mind and take a break from work, but that doesn’t mean that the topic has to be the latest gossip about a co-worker.

Will water coolers for offices still be around with this shrinking office space trend? We surely hope so, because no one should be deprived of his right to have clean free water at their workspace. The latest researches show that office spaces have reduced drastically in the past 6-7 years. For example, in 1995 the average space was 300 square feet while now it is 225 and in some cases even less. This is so, because of a few major factors. First of all, the prices of the real estate soared a few years ago, making companies come up with ways to reduce these costs. Secondly, the globalization of the supply chains and the way people work, especially those in the IT departments, have changed. You see people working from their phones, tablets or laptops in the local coffee shop, at the airport and basically anywhere they have an internet connection. A big percentage of these people do not work in the office any more or go there for just a few hours during the week. This means that the office space is reducing. We have spoken to some companies overseas and the managements of Best Buy, a leading technical store chain in the States, have told us that they have given their employees a choice to work from home as long as the entire job is done. Their performance has soared 35% since then.
But the water coolers for offices were still there – even though the office was half full.

If you have water coolers for offices installed, you might want to know a few useful tips on how to keep your water bottles from freezing in the winter. There are times, when your office closes for a few days, especially around the holidays. If your office is not situated in a building, or rather a house, there is a chance your water bottles might freeze. When your office is about to close its doors for a few days there are a few steps to be taken to prevent the bottles from freezing. First of all you should take off the bottle off the cooler and turn it upside down. The water tends to freeze on the top of containers, not where the opening is. Put all your bottles in a place where the temperature does not fall below 0°C. If you think that it might get colder than that, you might want to bury the bottles in snow, if there is any. The snow makes a great insulator and will prevent the water from freezing. If you have a back yard, just leave the bottles in the snow. If your office does not a have a backyard, or there isn’t any snow, just wrap the bottles in an insulator. You might want to use a wool fabric or a bubble wrap. If you do not want to go through all this trouble, just get plumbed in water coolers for offices – you will not worry about bottles freezing.
